“Naughty Peggy,” scolded Chloe. “You mustn’t move the balls.”

Oops! Peggy felt bad. She’d just been trying to help.

As her family played golf, Peggy was careful not to touch the balls again—even though she was tempted to chase after them. Each hole had a different seaside theme—there were pirate ships and treasure chests and whales. Finally they came to a hole with a big shark figure.

Peggy eyed it nervously, but it didn’t move—even when Ruby accidentally whacked it with her golf club.

Finn tapped his red ball, and it rolled through the shark’s open jaws and plopped into the cup at the end. “Yes!” He danced around, celebrating his hole in one. “That puts me in the lead,” he cheered.

When they got to the end of the course, a familiar seagull was perched on top of the giant squid at the last hole. “Hey, Four Legs, how many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?” she squawked.

“Hi, Pearl,” Peggy said to her friend from the beach. She counted the octopus’s legs and guessed the answer. “Is it eight?”

“No. Ten tickles. Tentacles, get it?” The seagull hopped up and down, laughing, Then she asked, “Hey, are you still looking for a mermaid?”

“Yes,” said Peggy.

“I’ve just seen one,” said Pearl. “On the high street.”

Peggy barked and tugged on her lead eagerly. “Come on!” she told Chloe. “We need to go—NOW!”

“I guess Peggy’s had enough mini golf,” Dad said, chuckling.

Peggy pranced impatiently as her family finished up their game and returned their golf clubs. When they were back on the promenade, Peggy looked around. Where was the mermaid?

“She’s over there!” squawked Pearl, gesturing with her wing as she circled overhead.

In the distance, Peggy saw something shiny glittering in the sun—the mermaid’s tail!

Peggy tugged so hard on her lead that Chloe lost her grip. Her lead dragging behind her, Peggy raced down the street, as fast as her little legs could go.
